The 2026 Shine a Light on Road Safety campaign has officially come to a close, and what an incredible campaign it has been.

For 13 years, Shine a Light on Road Safety has brought Victorians together to remember loved ones, support those affected by road trauma and encourage safer roads for everyone. This year was our biggest campaign yet, with record participation, incredible community support and a total of $111,797 raised to help Amber Community continue delivering free support services, education and advocacy.

To everyone who walked, fundraised, donated, volunteered, partnered with us or simply helped spread the message, thank you. Together, you made a real difference.

A record-breaking Community Walk & Wheel

The annual Community Walk & Wheel at Albert Park Lake once again brought together hundreds of people united by a shared commitment to road safety.

It was a day of remembrance, connection and hope, where families, friends, supporters and road safety partners walked side by side to honour those impacted by road trauma and advocate for safer roads.

A highlight of the day was hearing from our 2026 campaign ambassador, James Thompson, who shared his personal road trauma story. His willingness to speak so openly helped remind us that behind every statistic is a person, a family and a community forever changed.

We were also honoured to welcome Mick Hermans, Assistant Commissioner for Road Policing, whose support reinforced the importance of working together to improve road safety across Victoria.

More than a walk: A campaign across Victoria

While the Walk & Wheel remains at the heart of the campaign, Shine a Light on Road Safety has grown into a statewide movement.

Throughout May, communities across Victoria found meaningful ways to get involved. From Laughing Yoga and a community Golf Day in Torquay, to the Shine a Light on Road Safety Community Expo in Warrnambool, Hastings Emergency Services Day and local Coffee, Cake and Chat sessions, people came together to raise awareness in ways that suited their communities.

We also loved seeing so many people embrace our Fundraise Your Way initiative through workplace events, birthdays, book sales and community activities.

A special thank you goes to Janine, Bill and family from Barber Bill’s in Tecoma. Inspired by lived experience and driven by community spirit, they raised $10,456 while honouring their son Elias’s legacy and supporting others affected by road trauma.

Raising awareness together

Shine a Light on Road Safety is about more than fundraising, it’s about starting conversations that can save lives.

Throughout National Road Safety Week, buildings and landmarks across Victoria were illuminated in yellow, while electronic road signs encouraged motorists to turn on their headlights in support of those impacted by road trauma. Generous partners also donated billboard and advertising space to help amplify the campaign message.

The campaign also reached communities through television, newspapers, radio interviews and social media, helping inspire more Victorians to reflect on road safety and the impact of road trauma.

Looking ahead

As we celebrate everything achieved during the 2026 Shine a Light on Road Safety campaign, we’re reminded that creating safer roads is a shared responsibility.

Every conversation, every fundraiser and every person who chose to get involved helped keep road safety in the spotlight and showed those affected by road trauma that they are not alone.

Thank you for supporting Amber Community and helping us make this our biggest Shine a Light on Road Safety campaign yet.

We look forward to shining a light on road safety with you again in 2027.
