Welcoming Rosie as an Honorary Life Member
On 16 September 2006, Rosie received a phone call that forever changed her life. Three years later, in 2009, lost in her grief, Rosie was introduced to us—then known as Road Trauma Support Services Victoria—by supportive work colleagues. Her journey began alongside Chris Harrison, our Education Services Manager, where she bravely shared her story with a group for the first time. Over coffee afterwards, Chris suggested she explore our counselling services, and Rosie connected with one of our counsellors, who supported her through many sessions.
Community experience
One of her first community experiences with us was at our Christmas gathering at Melbourne Zoo, where she vividly recalls the baby elephants. She was new yet warmly welcomed, and that sense of belonging stayed with her. Over the years, Rosie took on the annual Christmas break-up, planning memorable gatherings at places like Werribee Zoo, Healesville Sanctuary, and Funfields Park. She even stepped into the role of Santa a few times, including at the Melbourne Bowls Club, spreading warmth each holiday season.
Sharing Rosie’s story
Rosie’s contributions have extended far beyond these gatherings. She’s courageously shared her story on public platforms, from media appearances on Channel 10’s The Project to talks at the Police Academy, and has been a powerful voice as a lived experience volunteer in our Road Trauma Awareness Seminar Program. She has touched countless lives, her story resonating with participants and evoking visible shifts—from hugs and tears to expressions of gratitude and even a renewed perspective.
After the tragic loss of her son, Duncan, Rosie made a personal commitment to do everything she could to help young people avoid the same mistakes. Her dedication to this cause has left a profound legacy in our community.
Thank you, Rosie
Having worked alongside Rosie at various times, we are grateful to welcome her as an Honorary Life Member of Amber Community. Her years of dedication to this community and her passion for making a difference continue to inspire us all. Thank you, Rosie, for your continued involvement and invaluable contributions and for being such an essential part of our education team. We are honoured to have you as part of Amber Community.
