A story of impact, legacy and giving back
Amber Community is proud to celebrate Irene Harrington OAM, whose story is featured in the newly released Not Ordinary Lives 2: Movers & Shakers Volume 1.
Irene has been part of our story since the very early days, contributing to the growth and development of the organisation that would become a vital support service for people affected by road trauma across Victoria.
Her involvement began through a shared desire to help. After her close friend Jeanette Suhr OAM experienced the devastating loss of her daughter, Irene was part of the early conversations exploring how to better support others facing similar trauma. From there, Irene’s contribution continued to grow over many years.
A legacy of dedication and service
Irene’s impact has been both significant and enduring. From helping set up the early office to stepping into the role of volunteer office manager, and later serving in multiple Board positions, including President and Vice President, Irene has played a key role in shaping the organisation behind the scenes.
Her contribution has spanned governance, operations, volunteering and advocacy. Even beyond her formal roles, she has continued to support the organisation through hands-on volunteering and a deep commitment to its purpose.
A collection of inspiring lives
Not Ordinary Lives 2: Movers & Shakers Volume 1 is more than a single story; it is a collection of real-life accounts from people who have made a meaningful difference in their communities, industries and beyond.
The book celebrates lives shaped by resilience, service and purpose, highlighting the many ways individuals can create lasting impact.
We are also proud to say that Irene’s husband, Fred Harrington OAM, is also featured in the book; they really are a family deeply committed to community and service.
